Letter To Your MP: Don’t Let Them Take Our Rights In Secret

Write to your MP and help us challenge the EHRC’s attempt to bring in proposals to radically alter the Equality Act under the cover of darkness.

The UK’s national human rights body (the EHRC), is quietly proposing a radical change to how the Equality Act is interpreted. If allowed to pass unchallenged, this new guidance could be used to justify banning trans people from the public spaces we’ve used for decades.

No debate.

No scrutiny.

No vote.

Just a minister’s signature…and it could become law.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has drafted a new Code of Practice that reportedly redefines the Equality Act in a way that could devastate trans+ lives.

This new guidance could:

  • Encourage blanket bans on trans people in bathrooms, changing rooms, sports, and support services.
  • Strip away protections by claiming they are just “guidance.”
  • Become law without MPs voting on it or the public seeing it in advance.

This is not just about trans rights. It’s about democracy.

If one group’s rights can be stripped away behind closed doors, who’s next?

We need MPs to speak out now. Before it’s too late. Use the sample letter below to email your MP.

Personalise it if you can.

Add your story. Make it real.

Make them care.

Dear [MP’s name],
I am writing to you as a concerned constituent about the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s draft Code of Practice, which could radically reinterpret the Equality Act, without any Parliamentary scrutiny.
This guidance could be used to justify excluding trans+ people from public spaces, including bathrooms, support services, and community spaces.
This would set a dangerous precedent for how equality law is applied, and who gets to decide.
I’m particularly alarmed that this guidance may be approved in secret, with no democratic vote or debate, and no chance for further public input. That’s not how decisions about fundamental rights should be made in a democracy.

I urge you to:

  • Press for immediate publication of the draft Code of Practice.
  • Demand full Parliamentary scrutiny and a democratic vote before any approval.
  • Speak out publicly to protect the rights and dignity of trans people in our community.

This matters deeply to me. I hope it matters to you too.
Yours sincerely,
[Your full name]
[Your address, so they know you’re a constituent]

This isn’t an exaggeration.

This is a coordinated attempt to strip away trans rights under the radar.
But if we speak out together, we can push back.

Let your MP know that rights should never be decided in secret.
