Why Being Trans Feels Like a Superpower
Every superhero has an origin story.
It’s not always glamorous — in fact, it usually hurts. But it’s what transforms them.
I’ve started to realise that being trans is a lot like that.
It’s my origin story.
And I think many trans people might feel the same.

The Red Room & Reclamation
(Black Widow)
Natasha Romanoff was trained to suppress her identity, moulded into someone else’s ideal.
Many trans people grow up learning to do the same – to perform, survive & adapt.
And like her, we eventually break free.
We reclaim agency, rebuild ourselves, and choose our own missions.

Falling, Then Flying
(Captain Marvel)
Carol Danvers was told again and again to stay down, to be less.
But her power came from getting up every time.
That moment when she remembers who she is? That’s transition.
That’s the surge of remembering yourself, beyond what others said you were.

Mutation as Metaphor
(X-Men)
The X-Men were feared for being different, pushed to hide their powers, or forced to fight for acceptance in a world that wanted to legislate them out of existence.
Sound familiar?
Like them, we’re not broken. We’ve evolved. Our mutations are our magic.

Dual Lives, Real Identity (Spider-Man)
Peter Parker has his public self and his private one, constantly juggling masks.
Sound familiar?
Many of us live double lives before we come out – hiding, protecting – waiting.
Until we realise: the real power is in showing up as ourselves.

The Phoenix Reborn
(Jean Grey)
Sometimes, transition feels like dying and being reborn.
Old selves fall away. New strength rises.
Scary?
Yes. But freeing too.
Like the Phoenix, we come back with fire in our bones.

Ami Foxx (Ghost Foxx)
I don’t have a cape or a costume (well… not always 😏), but I do have scars, growth, and a sense of purpose.
Being trans isn’t my weakness.
It’s my superpower.
I am strong and unbreakable, because of my journey
