Amelia’s Angels Founder Ami Foxx nominated for Trans Community Champion Award

“Being nominated for this award is more than personal recognition, it shows how one person can make a difference.”

Founder of our Amelia’s Angels advocacy group Ami Foxx, has been nominated for a Trans In The City, Trans Community Champion Award (England). This comes when members of the community write in to suggest a person and/or organisation who they feel has been a champion and role model for the trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming communities.

The Trans In The City awards take place in November and nominations for all categories end on 30th September. Find out more: transinthecity.co.uk/awards

In response Ami has written about what the nomination means and you can read her response below.

It shows… that resilience in the face of hostility is something to be celebrated, and that even in difficult times, trans voices can shine through.

Hi,

I found out today that someone has nominated me for the Trans In The City, Community Champion award. Being nominated for this award is more than personal recognition, it shows how one person can make a difference. It shows that our community’s work matters, that resilience in the face of hostility is something to be celebrated, and that even in difficult times, trans voices can shine through.

For me, it’s a reminder that every late night spent writing articles, every moment spent trawling through hateful rhetoric in the media to find facts rather than opinions, every coaching call, and every act of advocacy has made a difference.

And most of all, it encourages me to keep going – to keep helping our community, to keep standing tall and being seen.

I would also like to highlight that my work has been done almost entirely independently, without funding or organisational backing. This means the support I’ve provided has been powered by lived experience, community solidarity, and sheer determination. I believe this personal approach makes a difference, because it shows people that support and advocacy can grow from within our own community, and that trans people can and do lift each other up every day.

I also could not have done this without the support and backup from my partner and website co-creator Dillon, who has been instrumental in publishing my words and advocacy.

Thank you so much for this! I’m honoured and deeply touched to be recognised in this way.

Kind regards,

Ami Foxx

Everything we do: life coaching, support, advocacy etc, is offered free. A few kind people have asked how they can support us; so this is a way to do that if you’d like to. What we’re building here will need funding down the line. We’re immensely grateful for your support. Ami & Dillon.
