September 21st 2025 marked a proud moment for us here at Amelia’s Angels as our very own Ami Foxx stepped into a brand new role: Manager of Great Bradfords FC Ladies Reserves, an Essex – based women’s football team in Division 3.
Ami’s appointment comes in the wake of the FA’s controversial new regulations, which banned transgender women from playing in women’s football from the 2025–26 season onwards.
“Football has been a huge part of my life, and I wasn’t about to give it up.”
From football ban to football history making
Like many others, Ami was forced to step away from playing – but she refused to let that be the end of her football story.
“Football has been a huge part of my life, and I wasn’t about to give it up.” Ami says, “Coaching gives me a chance to stay involved, support a great group of players, and show that we belong in this game.”
Ami previously played one season in women’s football before the ban came into force earlier on 1 June 2025.
Great Bradford’s management team were one of the first to express their disdain for the decision and reached out to support her and offer her a place to play in off season tournaments and friendlies.
When Great Bradfords advertised for a new manager, she jumped at the opportunity and made history in the process.
‘Ami is now only the second transgender woman to hold a managerial position within the English FA leagues.’
Visibility, resilience and community spirit
Her debut match as manager may have ended in a 3 – 1 loss to Stones Ladies, but it marked the beginning of something much bigger: a visible, defiant stand for inclusion and community in the face of exclusionary policy.
“It’s a bit of two fingers to the FA, honestly,” Ami laughs. “They can stop me from playing, but they can’t stop me from being part of things. I want to see women’s football go from strength to strength and I want to help new players grow and improve. I love the game, I love this club, and the team has welcomed me so warmly.“
Ami draws inspiration from Lucy Clark – the FA’s first transgender referee and team manager and hopes to inspire others by being visible and vocal in the sport she loves.
“I want other trans people to see that we can carve out our place, even when the system tries to shut us out,” she says. “Being on the sidelines as a manager isn’t a step back. It’s a different kind of role, one of leadership, and I’m ready for it.”
Whatever the scoreline this weekend against Epping Town Ladies, Ami’s appointment is already a victory – for visibility, resilience, and community spirit.
‘…a visible, defiant stand for inclusion and community in the face of exclusionary policy.’
Why this matters
Ami’s story is about more than football. It’s about refusing to disappear. At a time when trans women are being pushed out of sports, and indeed all women’s spaces, she’s stepped up to lead and to remind everyone watching, that trans people belong in every part of the game and definitely in every part of life.
