Amelia’s Angels statement regarding the ‘leaked’ EHRC guidance

We want to take a moment to share clear facts and offer some reassurance to our trans and allied community.

In the past day or so, several media outlets have reported on alleged leaks from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) concerning forthcoming guidance on single-sex spaces.

We want to take a moment to share clear facts and offer some reassurance to our trans and allied community.

  • The EHRC has drafted updated guidance following an April 2025 Supreme Court ruling that interpreted “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 as meaning ‘biological sex’.
  • This draft has not yet been approved by ministers or Parliament. It is not law, and nothing has changed in legal terms.
  • Media reports describe the draft as suggesting that service providers could consider “appearance or behaviour” when deciding access to single-sex spaces – however this text has not been published or verified.
  • The UK government has stated it is “taking time to get this right,” acknowledging that the issue is complex and sensitive.

  • The final wording of the EHRC Code of Practice.
  • Whether the leaked material reflects the final draft or earlier internal discussions.
  • How any future guidance will interact with existing legal protections for trans people under the Equality Act’s “gender reassignment” provisions.

First, please don’t panic.
No new law has taken effect. Trans people’s existing legal rights remain intact. Leaked text or sensational journalism do not equate to policy / law.

Second, don’t feed the outrage cycle.
Stories like these can be used to provoke fear or division. In fact, look at any social media post on this and you will see this. Arguing in the comments rarely changes hearts or minds; it mostly fuels anxiety. If you see inflammatory content online, it’s perfectly okay to scroll past and protect your peace.

Third, stay connected and grounded.
Keep sharing information through trusted sources and supportive networks. Keep living your life, accessing services, and taking up space as you always have. If we go to ground, hide, panic etc – they are winning.

What we’ll do next

Amelia’s Angels will continue monitoring official EHRC and government updates. When verifiable information is released, we’ll help translate it into plain language and practical advice.

Our commitment remains the same: to help trans people navigate uncertainty in the world with clarity, dignity, and calm confidence.

Together, we’ve weathered worse. Let’s stay steady, support one another, celebrate the community / connections we have create – and not let rumour or hateful rhetoric shake who we are.

We’re here for you.

Everything we do: life coaching, support, advocacy etc, is offered free. A few kind people have asked how they can support us; so this is a way to do that if you’d like to. What we’re building here will need funding down the line. We’re immensely grateful for your support. Ami & Dillon.
