Don’t let trans rights die in darkness – write your MP TODAY!

Parliament has 40 days to STOP the new EHRC code of practice – they can only scrutinise and expose this by a “prayer motion” – without it, trans lives will be become more dangerous, more excluded from day to day life.

The EHRC code regarding the way trans people are treated/must conduct ourselves in day to day life is now in Parliament. There are 40 days for your MP to table a “prayer motion” to object to or challenge this.

Many MP’s have used social media to write letters or words of support BUT unless they challenge in Parliament, this goes ahead & the trans community will find ourselves restricted, othered & treated as a “3rd gender”. We’ll be outed, pushed to use facilities that could put us in danger and will potentially loose access to services and spaces which we have used for decades.

It also means we will find GRC’s effectively become “null & voided” because the guidance saysa trans man with a GRC is a woman and a trans woman with a GRC is a man, for the purposes of the Act.” Meaning no matter what we do, we’ll never be treated with the so-called “dignity” that the current government claimed they would fight for and ensure we have.

So we must act – again. Yes we’re tired and I get that – I am too, BUT unless MPs make the motions to challenge the guidance it goes through. And you can bet many places will, for fear of legal challenges that others are already experiencing (think WI, Girl Guides etc), just shut the door to us, meaning trans people will find themselves excluded, leaving us with fewer rights. The UK, if this guidance goes through Parliament unchallenged, “Will Make the UK a Hostile Environment for Trans People“.

So please WRITE to your MP and ask them to act.

Here’s some useful links including Trans Legal Clinics letter template, instructions on how to find your MP to write to and additional information.

As Bimini Babes wrote in a powerful blog post:

“The “negative procedure” the government has chosen means that, under normal conditions, this Code becomes statutory guidance with no parliamentary debate. No vote. No scrutiny. It just passes, and your MP, the one you voted for, has no say in the most consequential equality law change in fifteen years.”

The more people that write, the more chance to scrutinise in public just what this cruel code will mean.

Write, share with friends, family & allies everywhere.

We’re not going anywhere, no matter what they try to do. The fight will be harder BUT we ARE deserving of dignity, safety, and participation in public life.

Thank you. Ami and Dillon | Amelia’s Angels

Everything we do: life coaching, support, advocacy etc, is offered free. A few kind people have asked how they can support us; so this is a way to do that if you’d like to. What we’re building here will need funding down the line. We’re immensely grateful for your support. Ami & Dillon.
